PROBE signs off after 24 years on Philippine Television

The award-winning program that pioneered investigative journalism on Philippine television is bidding goodbye for now after almost a quarter of a century in investigating the top issues and personalities in the country.
Probe is going full circle as it celebrated its remarkable run, which began during the presidency of Corazon Aquino, with a two-part series about the ascent to presidency of Cory’s son, President-elect Benigno Aquino III.
In the two-part special, Cheche Lazaro featured life in the Malacañang Palace with a series of interviews with presidential offsprings Nini Quezon, Ilocos Norte Governor-elect Imee Marcos, and former Sen. Jun Magsaysay, former presidents Joseph Estrada and Fidel V. Ramos, and even Palace employees and servants who will bare the secrets of Malacañang.
On June 30, Cheche zeroed in on Sen. Noynoy Aquino’s march to the presidency beginning with the grueling 2010 election campaign to his inauguration, getting the inside story behind the issues in his candidacy and the transition to his administration straight from his campaign manager Butch Abad, incoming presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, and the Aquino sisters.
Despite the exit of Probe Profiles, Lazaro said Probe Productions Inc. will continue churning up brave and quality projects and might return to television, while she will still be seen as anchor of “Media in Focus” on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel.
Lazaro said, “for as long as Filipinos look at the nation with probing eyes and minds, the Probe legacy lives on.”

that’s really sad. I thought there’d be just some sort of a reformat that will take place and that they’d be back next week. All the probe programs have made an impact big time especially with my generation. I am hoping that PROBE will be back on TV really soon. Thank you Probe.

I was in high school when I started watching Probe Team. it molded an informed consciousness for me as a filipino, to the point of wanting to pursue a study in journalism in college and be part of the kind of conviction The Probe have. Thank you for the years of fearless pursuit of the TRUTH. I know that we haven’t lost a WARRIOR, The WARRIOR is Just gaining strength of the next round of fight. We will be waiting! Cheers!!!

i guess the relevance of probe in history is generational and they helped our generation to define our relevance. In the critical times of our country, it is only the probe who initiated the time of critique. This role in media practice is priceless and indeed an unconditional way of showing love for the country. I am sad that probe will already be off the air, but i am hoping that this is just temporary and i am confident that the probe will once again find vigor to reshape to contour of this generation. Kudos and thank you very much for bein part of my social vigilance. YOur transformative intervention in creating critical public opionion will definitely resonate and reverberate in media practice and social transformation. That i guess is probe’s critical inheritance ; )

Probe is definitely one of the best and most critical programs that television had ever offered us. It is sad that they have to sign off especially in this “transition time” of the country. Probe was one of my inspirations to dip myself in the field of journalism. I have always wished to work for this show after graduation. Thanks for the inspiration Ms. Cheche and rest of the Probe Team. Good Luck and God bless!

Hello Ms. Cheche! I was able to catch Boy Abunda’s show yesterday on Studio 23 and was so sad to learn that you decided to end Probe. On the other hand, I was impressed when you mentioned to Mr. Abunda your reason for doing so — your grandkid. I loved your answer that you would like to see the child grow and be there every step of the way. Awww… what a lucky kid! Wish you & all your staff all the best… Mabuhay kayo PROBE TEAM! I will be forever be a…(as I’ve heard from Boy Abunda & the other commentators in his show) Chechemon!

Hi Mam Cheche,
I just would like to say that you are one big inspiration for me as a broadcaster myself. I am a station manager of an FM station here in Isabela and I have watched your program while I was growing up. Thank you for raising the standards of journalism in our country. You have made it possible for all of us to continue to strive for excellence in our craft by aspiring to be like you: upright, fair and brave. God bless you po Mam Cheche. Isa kang bayani sa larangan ng journalismo.
Sana marami pang dumating na katulad ninyo para dumami pa ang magpakita ng katotohanan sa publiko.
